Our YARN

Yarn 3 copy.jpg

Every spring we shear our sheep to help keep them cool and healthy. We work with an experienced shearer to harvest the wool and send it to the folks at Bartlett Yarns in Harmony, Maine to be washed, carded and spun into the beautiful skeins you find at our farm stand.

We love sending our raw wool to Bartlett Yarns because the yarns they spin have a unique loft, texture and strength as it is created using a similar drafting procedure found in hand spinning.  It is the oldest and last remaining mule spun mill in the United States; these yarns are produced in a time honored tradition using antique machinery. They share our commitment to the idea that fine quality takes time, and that the final result is well worth the wait.

What is our yarn like?

Our skeins of virgin wool are un-dyed and retain their natural lanolin oils. Because the traditional process leaves natural oils in the wool, our yarns are soft and weather resistant, making them a great choice for hats, scarves, cozy fisherman’s sweater and any projects that require a traditional yarn. Our skeins weigh in at 4oz, are worsted weight, and have 210 yards per skein.

Where can you find our yarn?

We’re happy to offer our yarn for sale online and shipped straight to your home.

A NOTE ON SHIPPING:

Please note that we are a small, family farm, meaning that most of our time is split between caring for our animals, cultivating the land, and doing all of the other tasks it takes to make the farm run. Because of this, WE WILL ONLY BE PACKING SHIPMENTS ONCE PER WEEK ON MONDAY AFTERNOONS. Please be sure to factor this in to shipping durations, especially during the holidays. This means if you place an order on a Tuesday, your order will ship the following Monday.

Also, because of the small volume of yarn that we are shipping at present, we use USPS Flat Rate boxes. We pass these shipping costs directly to our customers without an additional charge for packing/handling. We hope to be able to offer more competitive and economic shipping rates in the future as our volume increases and appreciate your patience.

We thank you so much for your understanding and for making the effort to support small, family farms.
